What's Up with Diabetes - Part II

Now that we've established that the developed world is in the throes of a Type II Diabetes epidemic, we have to establish what to do about it. How do we prevent Diabetes and if we do end up developing it, how do we minimize the effects (and possibly reverse it?)

There are many things people can do to minimize the effects of Type II over and above exercising religiously and watching what and how much they eat. One of the most surprising research studies I've read about recently came to the conclusion that sitting in a hot jacuzzi or jacuzzi tub for half an hour to an hour every day has great benefits for diabetics. Apparently the increase in body temperature does something to improve the manufacture of insulin by the pancreas. Perhaps the lulling and relaxing effect help the body deal with stress as well. I say it's certainly worth a try.

My husband who's had Type II for about 5 years now is much healthier and is able to keep his blood glucose levels down at a normal rate with the ongoing use of Milk Thistle, Chromium Picolonate, MSM, and most recently Aerobic Oxygen. He started using the "liquid oxygen" that friends had been raving about and found that his blood sugar levels were staying down and not zig zagging throughout the day according to what he was doing or eating! He's even found that the aerobic oxygen has improved the stiffness in his hands after strenuous exercise (going quadding.) L-Carnitine and l-Glutamine are effective but are not always easy to find. As well, raw thyroid, adrenal and pancreas are great for boosting the already low levels of these hormones.

Recently my husband went to see a naturopath for the first time and was told to start taking Zinc, Bioflavonoids (vitamin C with pulp sometimes called Ester-C) and a good B Complex supplement including a high dose of B12 and essential minerals such as copper, manganese, magnesium as well as CoEnzymeQ10. And last, but not least is Pycnogenol which is a good antioxidant along with proteolytic enzymes.

There are many herbs that can be taken as teas or vegecaps, but the list can become long and unruly. We are the only people we know taking so many different supplements, varying days and time of day. The upside is that we're both healthier than we've been in the last 30 years.

Youthfulness....here we come! Diabetes be gone!
