There are eight Wimmin in Wax encaustic artists in exhibiting in this event: Lorna Kemp, Catherine Boggs, Aurelia
Saunders, Izabella Orzelski-Konikowski, Sirkka Kadatz, Jane Montgomery, Diane Plasse and Monika Dery.
The 30 paintings are a large variety of wax-based pieces with many different techniques as we are a very loosely
based group with different painting backgrounds. Four of us have just returned from the International Encaustics
Association conference in Portland, Oregon, and IEA is always looking for new encaustic artist members if you happen
to love wax. Lorna and Monika had paintings juried into the prestigious Columbia River Gallery for an exhibition

 "Wimmin in Wax," a loosely knit group of Alberta visual
artists, hosts this fantastic encaustic art exhibition reception with most artists in attendance.
These 10 wax-based artists will wow guests with their innovative use of wax in creating a new/old form of art.
Encaustic art has been around for thousands of years and many of the Fayum paintings in the tombs of the Pharaohs
are still as beautiful as the day they were painted.

Leonard Cohen Festival Visual Arts Display
A visual arts display inspired by the life
and work of Leonard Cohen will be mounted at City Hall September 7 to 21. There is no charge to view the exhibit
which is part of the annual Leonard Cohen Festival. Hundreds of visual artists in Edmonton and area have been inspired
by Leonard Cohen's lyrics and melodies and have transferred their musical thoughts to canvas, paper and other supports

that will host between 1,200 to 1,500 junior athletes including their parents, coaches and chaperones during the

MURAL PREVIEW
On July 13th at the Red Strap Market (97
street & 103 avenue) = in Edmonton, there will be a Preview of the Mural with a presentation discussing how
the mural mosaic was created, the history of Mural Mosaic, information on some of the participants and info about
CPAWS and its objectives. There will be a powerpoint presentation and everyone can meet Lewis Lavoie- designer
of the Mural Mosaic concept. 11:30 - 1:30 This is open to all artists and anyone in the general public. Please
join us and invite your friends if you are in the area.
